“This class has been my most enjoyable experience at Saint Joseph’s. While I value my major courses, what was offered—and more importantly, who taught this course—made it truly unforgettable. I came into the class with some prior experience in film photography, but over the course of the semester, my technique and confidence grew significantly, which is clearly reflected in my work.
This growth was largely due to our professor, Jackie Neale. Jackie is not only highly skilled in film photography, but she is also an exceptional teacher. She consistently supported, motivated, and challenged us to improve. There was never a day where she wasn’t encouraging us to push ourselves further.
Taking this class during my final semester brought a sense of balance to my schedule. It became a creative outlet I could turn to when my other courses felt overwhelming. Additionally, the small class size created a strong sense of community. Being in the darkroom together allowed us to connect in a way I haven’t experienced in other classes. Despite different experience levels, we supported one another, creating a space where everyone felt comfortable both giving and receiving feedback.
By the final critique, I felt genuinely emotional knowing the class was coming to an end. The sense of community we built was rooted in the art itself, but it was truly fostered by the energy, care, and dedication Jackie brought to the classroom.
This course is something special, and Jackie Neale is a major reason why. Future students deserve the opportunity to learn from her, grow under her guidance, and experience the same sense of connection and creativity that this class provided.”
Thank you, Grace!
